@tedfertik @70sBachchan @njtmulder @policytensor @DanielaGabor Its GOTTA be the book after shutdown. Because it all circles around climate as well. Its the way they are going to fashion some kind of trans-Atlantic “sustainable” capitalist modernization program.

@tedfertik @70sBachchan @njtmulder @policytensor @DanielaGabor Turns out there has been a Western answer of sorts to BRI. It consists of blended finance. World Bank agenda of “billions into trillions” I kid you not! Its tied to SDG which some folks are actually trying to turn into big money. And how do you get that? Financial engineering.

@tedfertik @70sBachchan @njtmulder @policytensor I think EVERYONE missed it. Ive been doing a lot of googling. @DanielaGabor OF COURSE already has a paper on the new Wall Street consensus in development finance. But she is focused more on private linkages than on US geopolitical rationale.

@tedfertik @njtmulder Heartland of social democracy? Too much of the original heartland (in Berlin and Saxony) was lost in 1945 … Plus think about all those resentful anti communist refugees. That is what Godesberg is about, reestablishing possibility of majority on rather unfavorable terrain.

@tedfertik @policytensor @70sBachchan @njtmulder Hi Ted it is literally the logic of your PhD playing out again. State capitalist intruder into America’s Latin American backyard provokes even Trump admin into founding USIDFC. Part of a broader “blended finance” trend .. chapter 13 of Shutdown 🙂 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Inte…

A casual google search suggests there are ten times more hairdressers & hairstylists in the US than there are molecular biologists. Right now I worry about getting my hair done on an account of a virus the mol bios decoded in a matter of days -> I want more molecular biologists. https://t.co/jk5n0iks8N

@GeneralTheorist @fwred @DanielaGabor @jonsindreu @JoMicheII @tomashirstecon @bankofengland @MoritzDegler Thank you @GeneralTheorist as always this is really fantastic. Your narrative and that of @fwred ring really true, which is why I was a bit taken aback by the skeptical tip we started out on with this thread. It is almost as though a ECB special path has emerged here.

@darioperkins @GeneralTheorist @jonsindreu @fwred @DanielaGabor @JoMicheII @tomashirstecon @bankofengland @MoritzDegler Hi Dario thanks for what, I agree, is a very cool chart. Im really surprised by the US line. I thought I had read that US purchases this year absorbed almost all issuance. Perhaps that was Treasuries not bills?

@darioperkins @GeneralTheorist @jonsindreu @fwred @DanielaGabor @JoMicheII @tomashirstecon @bankofengland @MoritzDegler So …this fantastic thread started with the Bank of England and Im getting sense that ECB and BofE may be quite divergent here. Ironically perhaps it is the ECB that is much more clearly signaling tie to fiscal policy, whereas BofE protests its innocence on that score.
